Wells Close Visit – Checking on work done by Enterprise

After residents visited one of the regular ward surgeries held by your local LIB DEM ward councillors, to raise concerns about work that had been done by Enterprise, relating to some hedges in Wells Close, Cllr Darren Fower popped down and paid a visit.

Councillor visits Council’s customer care centre!

598890_485583388157160_17255516_n Recently, both your LIB DEM councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson visited Peterborough City Council’s customer service centre at Bayard Place in the city centre.

Commenting, Cllr Fower (pictured) said, “It was a very interesting to see and hear the sort of concerns raised by residents via the number 747474, that said though I was disappointed to learn that the guys at the centre do not ever refer people with concerns to their own democratically elected councillors? I thought that, despite the selling off of council services, elected members were still part of the team, and at least one of the calls I listened into, could have been referred to an elected member, but wasn’t!

“It’s also interesting to hear that the staff, who are now employed by SERCO, do not have access to YouTube, Facebook etc Given that he City Council has a page and channel surely it makes sense to allow staff who can help to have access and thus the ability to respond to concerns raised via these avenues?”

Sadly, neither were allowed to take many snaps! But there are one or two on the FOCUS Team Facebook Page!

Werrrington Village = One of the first to get non-metal manhole cover! #Exclusive

As reported in the Peterborough Telegraph, an anti-slip, non-metal manhole cover has been installed on Church Street, Werrington Village, “….to help improve road safety and cut metal theft.”

According to the report:

"The Instarmac-manufactured covers come with a host of advantages, being safer for motorcyclists, quicker to install, more environmentally friendly and less likely to be stolen because they have no scrap value."

Commenting, local LIB DEM ward councillor, Darren Fower said:

“If it reduces crime, then this idea is good, but dare I say, if manhole cover theft is a big issue for the city, what are the police doing about it?

“As for the man hole covers being more environmentally friendly, how can they be? Any additional manufacturing creates additional pollution, and while metal can be melted down, many plastic cannot be?

“This latest initiative by the Council is at least a touch bizarre!”

WHAT IT LOOKED like – “Flooding in Werrington Meadow”

Commenting, local LIB DEM ward councillor Darren Fower said:

“Since the start of the year both the South Werrignton and North Gunthorpe FOCUS team councillors have paid several visits to the problem area at Werrington Meadow – after residents complained of flooding.

“We’ve spoken with local people and now we need to see some action to address this problem – even if it is simply to introduce an alternative footpath for people to use?”

Tricky corner of CONISTON Road

Commenting, local LIB DEM ward councillor, Daren Fower said:

“This corner is definitely a potential trouble in waiting. Why? Because it’s sharp and the road space is restricted! Thus, when the No’ 2 Bus uses it, for example, the road space is reduced considerably and while local motorist are aware ….. visitors may not be!

“Let’s be honest this section of road needs more signage and perhaps even a mirror, but what we cannot rectify is the bad planning and implementation in the first instance of this stretch of road!”
