Request for new #cycle markings made! #HelmsdaleGardens #Werrington @SustransPBoro

Cycle markings

Please note that I have now submitted this request for work to the City Council and have been assured that it has been passed to the “…..relevant department…” and that I “….should receive a reply within 14 working days.”

The cycle markings have been in a bad way for some time and have deteriorated in recent months, and quite simply if there is a need to put them there in the first instance, then in my opinion, there is a need to have them maintained.

Cllr Darren Fower tries to explain the confusing world of electoral ward boundaries!

When it comes to electoral ward boundaries which include the residents who vote for the city councillors in this area, South Werrington and North Gunthorpe has some areas that really are quite confusing and in this instance identified and explained here by Cllr Darren Fower, includes 3 electoral wards!

This means people living at the top end of Gunthorpe Road down to just past the Methodist Church are covered by eight City Councillors, despite being on the same stretch of road!

Ullswater Avenue surface ………. some GOOD NEWS!

IMG_1322

Ullswater Avenue (North Gunthorpe)

Local residents recently attended one of the ‘ward surgeries’ run by local Lib Dem councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson to ask when Ullswater Avenue would be resurfaced.

Keen to get the matter addressed Darren formally raised the issue at the latest full council meeting at the Town Hall.

He asked the ‘cabinet member for Environment Capital and Neighbourhoods’ (the rather grand title of the Tory councillor in charge of roads paths):

“Please can the cabinet member let me know why the footpath along Ullswater Avenue has not been resurfaced since the 1960’s, resulting in elderly pedestrians and users of mobility vehicles having to use the road due to the uncertain and uneven manner of the footpath? When can local taxpayers expect to see resurfacing work done along this stretch of road?”

The good news is that the cabinet member said the work would be included in the works programme next year!

Darren is now working on getting the Tory-controlled city council to resurface Eskdale Close.

Darren said:

“I’m keen to see work done at Eskdale as it has already been left too long. It is now worn and torn, with road markings in some places barely legible.”

Just why are there NO goal posts in this recreational area? Anyone?

Cllr Darren Fower can often be seen out and about on his bike, visiting residents, checking out issues, delivering FOCUS Newsletters or simply enjoying a bike ride!

On this particular trip Darren took a trip through the walkway leading from Church Street to Warwick Road, which takes you through the local recreational area there.

One query that he has is what ever happened to the goalposts that used to be there?

Commenting, Darren said:

“There used to be goalposts here, I know this as I used to play in them as a kid. Given that football is still fairly popular as a sport in this country and the fact that its a relatively cheap past time for youngster to partake in – I think its a shame that there is not at least ONE goal post in this recreational area!”

Do YOU know the ANSWER? If so please leave a comment below! :)

New cycle signs go up in Werrington Village!

Cycle signs

Following a request from local Lib Dem councillor Darren Fower, the city council has replaced the ‘no cycling’ sign at the entrance to the footpath leading from Church Street, opposite the church, through to the recreational area.

Darren said:

“The signs were worn and the colours had completely faded, which made them rather pointless! So I got in contact with the city council, spoke with the relevant officers and now the matter has been resolved.”
